"Be Still"

Ethan Brown
  1. Psalm 46:10a (NRSV)

Be still and know that I am God

Be still and know that I am

    Be still and know

    Be still

    Be

Take a deep breath and slowly read through this passage of scripture a couple of times.  Our world praises the busyness of phones lighting up with emails to be answered at 8pm, social media alerts, and inflammatory news stories.

Breathe in and out…

Be still.

We celebrate the caffeine addict.  We joke about the anxiety of going out and that of missing out.  We follow the accounts of people who seem a little stronger or prettier, or richer, or more… something – but with a little more we would be like them too.

Breathe in and out…

Be still.

Our politics are driven by fear.  Our economy is fueled by debt.  In the midst of global pandemic, we have seen record wildfires and record numbers of hurricanes.  There are wars and rumors of wars and there have been deaths – global and often personal.

Breathe in and out…

Be still.

It is when we are still, when we cease our striving, when we recognize our weakness before the enormity of a world in chaos, it is only then that we can know the God who is exalted above the earth.  May the peace of God be planted like a seed in the stillness of your heart.

Breathe in and out…

Be still and know that I am God

Be still and know that I am

Be still and know

Be still

Be.
