Lord, You are doing something new!
“I am doing something new; it’s springing up-can’t you see it? I am making a road in the desert, rivers in the wasteland. ” Isaiah 43:19 CJB
Read Isaiah 43:19. Pause and think about the deserts and wastelands in the world and in your community. Visualize these places. What do you see, hear and smell? Has the grass dried up and have the flowers faded? Look into the face of someone living or working there. Reflect on what you see.
Now consider the desert and wasteland in yourself-in your heart, soul, mind and body. Where are there places that need something new? Confess to God your personal areas of wasteland, places in you that have dried up and faded or places that never received their needed attention. Pause. Listen.
How long, O Lord? How long have these people been forgotten? How long will they be forgotten?
How long, O Lord? How long will I keep myself in my desert or wasteland?
“Examine me, God, and know my heart; test me, and know my thoughts. See if there is in me any hurtful way, and lead me along the eternal way.” Psalm 139: 23-24 CJB
Lord, you are doing something new. It is springing up – I can see it!
Praise God for ways you see Him working in our world, your community and your life. Where do you see roads being made in the desert? Where are there rivers in the wasteland? Where is there construction for a new road? Where is there a stream that may lead to a river? Say them out loud to God.
Speak or sing this praise out loud to God:
Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Praise God in his holy place!
Praise him in the heavenly dome of his power!
Praise him for his mighty deeds!
Praise him for his surpassing greatness!
Praise him with a blast on the shofar!
Praise him with lute and lyre!
Praise him with tambourines and dancing!
Praise him with flutes and strings!
Praise him with clanging cymbals!
Praise him with loud crashing cymbals!
Let everything that has breath praise Adonai!
Psalm 150 CJB
Thank you Lord for loving us and never giving up on us. Thank you for making things new.
We can see it!
You are making a road in the desert, rivers in the wasteland.
Your Good News, your upside down Kingdom, is spring up-in us, in our communities, in the world.
We can see it. We can feel it. We can hear it. We want to be a part of this something new. We can do it. We can be a part of your creative work. The grass is turning green; the flowers are budding. Holy Spirit guide us, move us, change us. We want to enter the deserts and wastelands and be a part of making things new.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
